Dear Customer,

Customers urged to reduce water use to prevent Klapperkop and Garsfontein systems from collapsing

The City of Tshwane urges customers supplied by the Klapperkop and Garsfontein systems to take responsibility by reducing their exceedingly high consumption of water to prevent the system from collapsing.

Please use water for essential needs only and avoid watering gardens, washing vehicles or filling swimming pools. Unless customers change their water-use habits, continued high consumption could potentially cause the water supply network to collapse.

Reservoirs supplied by both systems have shown a slight improvement in water levels since last night. However, the systems remain under pressure and customers may still experience low water pressure or interruptions.

Rand Water's supply restrictions remain in place to protect the network and will be lifted once the Klapperkop and Garsfontein reservoirs reach safe operating levels.

Customers in the following areas may experience low water pressure or water interruptions:

The city is working closely with the water utility to support the recovery of both systems. Regional teams will continue to deploy water tankers and ward councillors will communicate their locations to affected customers.

The city apologises for the inconvenience and thanks customers for reducing their consumption. Further updates will follow as information becomes available.
