Notice: Region 7 water update - treatment work is underway-21 October 2026

The City of Tshwane, working with Rand Water, is carrying out extensive work at Bronkhorstspruit Water Treatment Plant to improve the treatment process, address the water quality challenges and stabilise the supply.

The plant will be temporarily switched on and off at intervals to allow teams to carry out the necessary work. Residents may therefore experience interruptions to their water supply during this period. These interruptions are part of the planned interventions to improve water quality.

Meanwhile, residents who are supplied by the plant may notice a stronger-than-usual chlorine smell in their tap water. This is due to shock chlorination, which involves adding higher levels of chlorine to help eliminate harmful germs in the system.

Tap water must still be used only for flushing toilets . It must NOT be used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, bathing, washing clothes or washing fruit and vegetables. A stronger chlorine smell does not mean that the water is safe for these uses.

These restrictions remain in place until the City officially confirms that the water is safe.

The City thanks residents for their patience and cooperation while teams continue working to improve water quality and restore reliable supply.
