A significant step towards reshaping the economic future of the Free State was taken this morning, Friday, 03 July 2026, as political and administrative leaders converged at the Metsimaholo Local Municipality Council Chambers in Sasolburg for a high-level Economic Cluster meeting focused on investment, infrastructure, and sustainable development.
The strategic meeting was chaired by the MEC for Public Works and Infrastructure, Dibolelo Mance, and brought together key decision-makers committed to accelerating economic transformation across the Fezile Dabi District.
Representing Metsimaholo Local Municipality were the Executive Mayor, Cllr Jack Malindi, and the Municipal Manager, Mr Basi Motloung, whose participation reaffirmed the municipality’s commitment to positioning Metsimaholo as a catalyst for economic growth and investment in the region.
Central to the discussions was the proposed Green Frontier Node, an ambitious, transformative initiative anchored in Metsimaholo that is poised to drive the clean energy transition along the southern side of the Vaal River. The project is expected to unlock new investment opportunities, stimulate industrial growth, expand critical infrastructure, and create meaningful employment while strengthening the district’s competitiveness in the emerging green economy.
Municipalities across the Fezile Dabi District also presented their investment pipelines, catalytic development projects, and future economic prospects, showcasing a united regional vision aimed at attracting investment and delivering inclusive, sustainable growth.
The meeting was attended by the MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (DESTEA), Ketso Makume; Executive Mayors from municipalities within the district; senior municipal officials from across Fezile Dabi; and senior officials from the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (DESTEA) and the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure.
The engagement underscored the importance of strengthened collaboration between provincial and local government in driving strategic infrastructure investment, unlocking economic opportunities, and delivering lasting socio-economic benefits for communities across the Free State.
