Tshwane experiencing high water consumption from some of its regions - 27 August 2026

5 min read31 views

The City of Tshwane is urging its customers in Regions 1, 3, 4 and 6 to urgently reduce their water consumption as the levels of the City's reservoirs supplying some of the areas in the mentioned regions are showing a significant drop.

The City has recorded one of the highest water consumptions since Monday, 24 August 2026. Our telemetry system reflects a consumption of 932 Mℓ per day, which is 265 Mℓ per day above the City's permitted limit.

The City has so far identified the ten highest consuming reservoirs . It has come to our attention that consumers who are supplied by these reservoirs are the main contributors to the overall high volume of consumption within Tshwane.

The demand in the areas supplied by the identified reservoirs is exceeding what the City can provide, compelling the City to surpass its licenced amount of water sourced from Rand Water. This high volume of consumption is continuously putting the City's distribution network and Rand Water systems under severe pressure.

Customers are warned that, if the current consumption practice does not change, these high consuming areas will experience prolonged water supply interruptions.

Below are the highest consuming reservoirs and the areas they supply:

Areas that are putting a strain on Kruisfontein Reservoir:

Klapperkop Reservoir supplies the following areas, which contribute to a drop in its levels:

Rooihuiskraal Reservoir is experiencing high consumption from the following areas:

Garsfontein Reservoir supplies the following areas:

Mooikloof Reservoir areas:

Ga-Rankuwa East, Ga-Rankuwa West and Ga-Rankuwa Industrial Reservoirs are experiencing high consumption from the following areas :

Koedoesnek HL Reservoir areas:

Koedoesnek LL Reservoir is experiencing high consumption in the following areas:

Residents are further reminded that the Level 1 water restrictions that were imposed previously in line with the Water Supply By-law were never withdrawn and are therefore still applicable.

The City will impose fines and restrict water supply to consumers who do not comply with the water restrictions.
