Update on water restrictions affecting the Garsfontein and Klapperkop systems-26 October 2026

2 min read28 views

-The Klapperkop and Garsfontein receiving reservoirs remain critically low. High water consumption continues to slow their recovery and limit supply to downstream reservoirs. Restrictions remain necessary to protect the network from collapsing.

Although some customers have no water, demand in areas still receiving supply remains high. This means that incoming water is being consumed before reservoir levels can recover sufficiently to supply all affected areas. Customers who have water therefore have a crucial role in helping restore supply to those still without it.

Water supply in Parkmore and Waverley remains stable following yesterday's report that water had started trickling into these areas. However, recovery across the affected systems remains uneven, and some customers continue to experience low pressure or interruptions.

Water entering Garsfontein Reservoir flows by gravity to downstream reservoirs. However, supply to Elardus Park depends on pumps that need sufficient reservoir levels to operate safely and serve higher-lying areas. Low levels continue to hamper pumping, meaning that improved inflows do not automatically translate into restored supply to customers.

Customers are urged to use water for essential needs only. Please avoid watering gardens, washing vehicles or filling swimming pools. Reducing consumption will help reservoirs recover and improve supply across the affected areas.

The City of Tshwane continues to work closely with Rand Water to support recovery. Regional teams will deploy water tankers, and ward councillors will communicate their locations. The city apologises for the inconvenience and thanks customers for their patience and cooperation.

Further updates will follow as verified information becomes availa
