Today, 23 January 2026, the Alfred Duma Local Municipality, led by Mayor Cllr Z.J Sibisi, successfully hosted the Annual Matric Excellence Awards Ceremony for 2026 at the Ladysmith Town Hall, aimed tocelebrate and honor the outstanding achievements of the Matric Class of 2025.
The Top 30 learners were recognized for their outstanding performance, and educators who excelled in the subjects of Accounting, Physics, and Mathematics were recognised for their exceptional performance. The event was conducted through the generous support of sponsors, achievers received laptops and backpacks for the top three positions, as well as trophies and certificates for their remarkable accomplishments.
In his address, the Mayor highlighted the importance of education as the cornerstone of a brighter future. He reaffirmed the municipality’s commitment to supporting educational initiatives and investing in education as a means to improve the lives of the people. As a testament to the commitment, the municipality also distributed 400 vouchers to cover registration fees for learners transitioning to higher education institutions.
