The City of Ekurhuleni is taking bold steps to clear the Weltevreden landfill site of illegal miners who have caused service stoppage at the landfill site for over three months.
A full-on operation, conducted today, 16 January, was led by Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD), and it has led to an arrest of one undocumented Malawian (23) suspected to be part of the illegal miners.
The landfill site remains closed until safe working conditions are restored.
Customers are advised to use other facilities such as the Rietfontein landfill site in KwaThema, Rooikraal in Dawn Park or Platkop landfill site near Katlehong.
The City apologises for the inconvenience this has caused.
