The King Sabata Dalindyebo Municipality today welcomed the Eastern Cape Department of Transport during a stakeholder engagement session where a range of road maintenance and disaster recovery infrastructure projects were officially introduced for implementation across various wards of the municipality.
These projects include:
✅ Mgqumo to Matshamba – Ward 19, 21, 20 & 28
Re-gravelling of 4km, installation of pipes and reshaping of 20km
✅ Mxambule to the Bridge– Wards 26 & 36
Re-gravelling of 5km and installation of pipes.
✅ Qweqwe to Kulanathi – Ward 33
Re-gravelling of 5km, installation of pipes and 10 km of wet blading
✅ Qokolweni to Lower Ngwarha – Wards 26 & 29
Re-gravelling of 5km, installation of pipes and 5km of reshaping.
✅ Julukuqu Plantation to Mbashe River – Ward 18
Re-gravelling of 4km, installation of pipes and 5km of wet blading.
✅ Mabheleni to Matyengqina – Wards 32
Re-gravelling of 3km, installation of pipes and 14.66km of reshaping.
✅ Mampingeni to Mbozisa Store – Ward 34
Re-gravelling of 2km, installation of pipes and 4km of reshaping.
✅ Bumbane to Madondile – Ward 20
Re-gravelling of 4km, installation of pipes and 4km of reshaping.
✅ Qweqwe to Khulanathi – Wards 31, 32, 33 & 34
Reshaping of 4km and 3.24km of wet blading.
The projects, valued at close to R29 million, are expected to be implemented over a period of four months and expected to create more than 30 temporary job opportunities for KSD communities.
Speaking during the session, KSD Executive Mayor, Cllr M. Dudumayo stated that KSD Municipality and the Department of Transport share responsibility for a significant road network that serves our communities. It is therefore critical that they (KSD & DoT) work together to ensure coordinated planning, efficient implementation, and sustainable service delivery.
He further emphasised that government has a responsibility to delivering quality services that meet the needs and expectations of our communities while improving access and connectivity across the municipality.
This investment forms part of ongoing efforts to improve road infrastructure, enhance connectivity for communities, and support local economic development through job creation.
