The Executive Mayor of uMshwathi Local Municipality, Cllr Mandla Zondi, has expressed satisfaction with the visible progress being made on infrastructure development projects across the municipality, saying these projects are a clear demonstration of the municipality’s commitment to improving service delivery and enhancing the quality of life for local communities.
The Mayor made these remarks during an oversight and monitoring visit to various municipal infrastructure projects that are currently under construction, recently completed, or undergoing rehabilitation throughout the municipality.
Among the projects visited were:
- The Mpolweni Sports Ground in Ward 10;
- The Makeni Sports Ground in Ward 3;
- The Mpolweni Clinic;
- The tarring of Nazo Road in Swayimane, Ward 8;
- The upgrading of oKhasini Road in Ward 11;
- Pedestrian bridges in Wards 13 and 14;
- The Mathulini Community Hall in Ward 5;
- The rehabilitation and reconstruction of bridges in Ward 2 that were severely damaged by previous floods; and
- Other completed and ongoing municipal infrastructure projects across uMshwathi.
Mayor Zondi said these investments reflect the municipality’s determination to accelerate service delivery and ensure that communities benefit from improved infrastructure that supports economic development, accessibility, recreation, public safety, and social well-being.
“The progress we are witnessing today is proof that development is taking place in uMshwathi. We remain committed to ensuring that every ward benefits from sustainable infrastructure that responds to the needs of our residents. These projects are not only improving service delivery but are also creating employment opportunities and contributing to local economic development,” said Mayor Zondi.
The Mayor further emphasised that the municipality will continue conducting regular site inspections to monitor the quality of work, ensure that projects are completed within the agreed timeframes and budgets, and hold contractors accountable for delivering infrastructure that meets the required standards.
