Honouring Madiba Through Service and Partnership

Msukaligwa Local Municipality joined the Mpumalanga Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport, led by MEC Thulasizwe Thomo, together with our Executive Mayor, Alderwoman M.P. Nkosi, government departments and stakeholders in commemorating Nelson Mandela Day through community service initiatives held on Friday, 17 July 2026.

The programme included donations of blankets and the refurbishment of the Sibanesihle Stimulation Centre in Wesselton, a maintenance campaign at the Ermelo Long Distance Taxi Rank and the handover of operating licences to qualifying driver beneficiaries.

As part of our contribution, the MLM donated 54 blankets and a new kitchen unit to the Sibanesihle Stimulation Centre, while also providing road maintenance tools to support pothole repairs at the taxi rank.

These community-building and service-delivery initiatives reflected the government's commitment to restoring dignity, improving public spaces and supporting vulnerable members of our community through practical action.

International Nelson Mandela Day reminds us that lasting change is achieved through service, compassion and collaboration. Working together across all spheres of government and with our communities continues to honour Madiba's legacy by making a meaningful difference where it matters most.
