The King Sabata Dalindyebo Local Municipality (KSDM) marked Access Disability Month in Hlabatshane, Ward 26, by handing over on Wednesday, 02 September 2026, a wheelchair to a resident living with a disability. The initiative aims to promote inclusion, dignity, mobility, independence and equal access for people with disabilities.

Disability Rights Awareness Month is observed nationally from 3 November to 3 December each year, culminating in the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on 3 December. The month provides an opportunity to raise awareness about the rights of persons with disabilities, challenge barriers and misconceptions, and promote their full and meaningful participation in society.

For KSDM, the commemoration goes beyond raising awareness, but also focuses on practical interventions that can improve the daily lives of persons with disabilities. The provision of assistive devices such as wheelchairs contributes towards greater mobility, independence and participation in community life.

Through initiatives such as this, KSDM reaffirms that access is a right, not a privilege, and remains committed to building an inclusive community where persons with disabilities are respected, supported and able to participate fully, leaving no one behind.
