The Alfred Duma Local Municipality, led by Mayor Cllr Z.J. Sibisi, successfully launched its Alien Invasive Plants Removal Programme yesterday the 11 February 2026 at the Ladysmith Country Club. This initiative aims to promote a safer, cleaner, and more sustainable environment for all residents and stakeholders.

The launch was attended by Councillor S. Buys, representatives from the African Black Ducks Association (ABDA), the South African Police Service (SAPS), municipal officials, and community members.

The primary focus of the programme is to remove waste and alien invasive plants from public spaces, while restoring and preserving natural areas within the municipality. This initiative marks a significant step towards achieving environmental sustainability and fostering community pride.

The removal of alien plants and waste will contribute to a healthier ecosystem and a more attractive living environment for all. The municipality, through its Solid Waste and Cleansing Department (Community and Social Services), remains committed to maintaining a clean and beautiful environment.

We are delighted to partner with the African Black Ducks Association, whose expertise is invaluable in cleaning our streams, where alien invasive plants tend to thrive.
