MMC Responsible for Economic Infrastructure Development Agency in the City of Ekurhuleni Ald. Dora Mlambo is conducting an oversight visit to Ekurhuleni Fresh Produce Market in Springs today, 3 June 2026.

The market has 15 000 trading square meters, with 17 cold rooms, including 24 ripening rooms. Ekurhuleni Fresh Produce Market is the third largest government-owned fresh produce market in Gauteng Province.

The market generates revenue by availing storage space for deliveries at a market-related fee.

The market has received increased crops due to more seasonal rains, which has led to price drop for the customers.

Some of the fresh produce handled at the market include potatoes, onions, banana, tomatoes, and many other vegetables.

Plans to go cash-less and introduce online shopping are on the pipeline for the city’s fresh produce market.

The market serves as a regional wholesale hub. Its primary purposes include bridging the gap between local farmers and buyers, stimulating the local economy, and providing communities with affordable and accessible fruits and vegetables

Ald. Mlambo further visited some of the city-owned agricultural farms, which may add to the produce destined for the Ekurhuleni Fresh Produce Market in future.
