On Wednesday, 14 January 2026, two new Councillors in the City of Ekurhuleni were sworn in by Senior Magistrate Dawray Mumtaz at the New Council Chambers in Germiston.
Councillor Noliqwa Clementine Semahla from the EFF and Councillor Mzomuhle Lucas Shabalala from the ANC took the oath of office and affirmed their faithfulness and their obedience to the Republic, the Constitution and Council before the magistrate.
Councillor Semahla replaces Nthabiseng Tshivhenga who has since joined the Gauteng Provincial Legislature. Councillor Shabalala became a ward councillor after winning the by-elections which were held in ward 109.
The new Councillors can now participate fully in the official business of Council.
