The projects will improve infrastructure and expand access to decent housing for residents while developing a more sustainable and well-serviced community.

Qualifying beneficiaries from Mabopane were drawn from the National Housing Needs Register.

For the current financial year, 147 units have been earmarked for Mabopane residents, with priority given to people with disabilities, vulnerable residents, military veterans and the elderly.

During the handover, Ald Nasiphi Moya, the Executive Mayor of Tshwane, said the unblocking of the project was a demonstration of what happens when government works together for the benefit of communities.

"We also want to commend the community that protected not only the land on which we are working but also the project, which is why the project is doing well. Since the project started, we have not received any reports of disruptions or protests from the community," said Ald Moya.

Ald Aaron Maluleka, MMC for Human Settlements, added that the City and the Gauteng Department of Human Settlements were working hard to unlock projects in the municipality, and that Mabopane Ext 1 was one of their success stories.

"We want to discourage those who have plans to invade our projects. We don't have space for those who want to invade our projects; we have our eviction orders ready," said Ald Maluleka.

Maluleka warned community members not to pay people money to get houses or jump the queue, as they could be removed from the houses allocated to them.
