YOUTH DEVELOPMENT OFFICE BRINGS CAREER GUIDANCE TO THE LEARNERS

The Alfred Duma Local Municipality’s Youth Development Office continues to play a vital role in empowering young people through career guidance and education support programmes that are aimed at preparing learners for life beyond high school. On Tuesday, 1 September 2026, the Youth Development team visited Silokoza High School in Ward 28, under Cllr. B.C Majola, where they engaged with Grade 9 learners on various career and study options available after completing their high school.

The session provided learners with valuable information on different professions, study fields, admission requirements, bursary opportunities and pathways to higher learning institutions. These initiatives are designed to help learners make informed decisions about their future careers, further education opportunities and personal development. The career guidance programmes are ongoing.

Also, as part of the programme, grade 12 learners were also assisted with applications and registrations through the Central Applications Office (CAO), as well as university and college application processes. This hands-on support helps to remove barriers that many learners face when applying for tertiary education, including limited access to information, technology and application guidance.

Through these interventions, the municipality seeks to ensure that no deserving learner is left behind due to a lack of awareness or support. By bringing these services directly to schools and communities, the Youth Development Office is helping to create opportunities for young people, improve access to higher education and contribute to the development of a skilled and empowered generation that will drive the future growth and prosperity of Alfred Duma Local Municipality.
